The Newark Star-Ledger
The Newark Star-Ledger is the largest newspaper in New Jersey, but like all newspapers, they found circulation decreasing. They decided they wanted to add video and online storytelling to the paper.
We trained 50 print reporters at the paper to shoot and tell their stories in video in conjunction with their print work. They found it easy to use the phones as digital notebooks, serving both purposes. We built a TV newsroom in their existing print newsroom — you could not ask for a better set and they began to live stream their stories in addition to the print paper.
In 2010, The Newark Star-Ledger won more TV Emmys than all the other local TV news stations combined. We have always found that newspapers can make a very easy and powerful transition to online video for very little cost.
