An ad for NYVS.com by Tim Swann
Last month we ran a contest with Tongal.com
We offered a $2500 prize for the best 30 second spot for our online video school, NYVS.com
Tim Swann was the winner.
Take a look at his ad.
I love it
It’s clever
It’s well done
And he did it himself.
If we (or anyone) had gone to an ad agency they would have charged us in the millions to produce this kind of thing
They do it all the time
That’s how they make their living.
But in Tim Swann’s spot you can see the end of the Advertising Agency as we know it.
The spot is as good as any ad agency could produce
and it costs a tiny fraction of what those agencies would charge.
Of course, they have buildings and executives and assistants and lunches and directors and creative people to support.
Lots of overhead
Tim Swann just has, well, Tim Swann.
In Tim Swann we can see, if we scrunch out eyes just a bit, Craig Newmark/
What Craig Newmark did to classifieds, Tim Swann and people like him – creative, talented, armed with a camera and a laptop, are now going to do to the ad agencies.
The revolution continues.
Michael Rosenblum
For more than 30 years, Michael Rosenblum has been on the cutting edge of the digital video journalism revolution. During this time, he has lead a drive for video literacy, and the complete rethinking of how television is made and controlled. His work has included: The complete transitioning of The BBC's national network (UK) to a VJ-driven model, starting in 2002. The complete conversion of The Voice of America, the United State's Government's broadcasting agency, (and the largest broadcaster in the world), from short wave radio to television broadcasting and webcasting using the VJ paradigm (1998-present). The construction of NYT Television, a New York Times Company, and the largest producer of non-fiction television in the US. Rosenblum was both the founder and President of NYT TV, (all based on this paradigm (1996-1998). The President and Founder of Video News International, a global VJ-driven newsgathering company, with more than 100 journalists around the world. (1993-1996). Other clients include Spectrum News, Verizon and CBS News.

It was a lot of fun to produce, but I have to say, I could not have done it without my collaborator, Elan Bentov. Together we were able to get this spot conceptualized and actualized in less than 48 hours. And it’s true, there is creative talent out there – far more creative than me – who are just waiting in the wings for opportunities like this one to make their mark on the advertising landscape.
