What’s going to happen now???
I am launching The Bacon Channel
I am sure it is going to be a big success.
How do I know?
Amazon recently bought Twitch – a gaming channel.
It isn’t a channel where you play video games, it’s a channel where you watch other people play video games.
If this is hard to believe, Amazon paid $1 billion for Twitch.
And if that isn’t hard enough to believe, Twitch has more than 55 million active montly viewers.
This is more viewers than the Oprah Winfrey Network is going to get for the next 150 years.
And Twitch is just getting started.
In March, 2012, just nine months after it started, Twitch already had 16 million monthly visitors, and it was growing at the rate of 11% per month.
And what do you watch on Twitch?
You watch other people play video games.
Astonishing.
What makes all this possible is the incredibly rapid growth of live streaming capability. People can live stream their game playing (along with commentary) from their homes. This certainly cuts the cost of production.
That there is such an audience for this speaks volumes about what Americans seem to be interested in.
I thought I would get in on this early, so I set up a live streaming camera in the den and webcast a game of Scrabble that Lisa and I were playing.
Surely this is ‘gaming’…isn’t it?
When that didn’t work, I got another idea.
Bacon.
Who doesn’t love bacon.
How does it work?
You watch as we cook bacon… and eat it!
Wow!
Is that great or what?
So stand by for The Bacon Channel.
It’s gonna be really big.
Jeff Bezos, are you listening.
I am nearly ready to sell.
