OK
I am sitting in my apartment in New York and it is 6PM in NY and 11PM in London.
The, so I am told, spectacular Olympics opening Ceremonies, directed by Danny Boyle are over.
They were, so I am told, truly great.
I could not see them.
I could not see them sitting here in New York at the epicenter of the media world.
I read about them on www.Guardian.co.uk
I could see photos on BBC America, though no live video.
I understood that NBC had bought the rights to the Olympics, but I did not see them on NBC, MSNBC or CNBC – or Bravo, for that matter.
I understand that I can see the opening ceremonies at 8PM tonight on NBC.
That would be about 5 hours after they actually happened.
That would be, not exactly live.
That would be a tape of the live event.
In an era when one can tweet instantly and get online instantly and watch live streaming video from Syria, for example, why does NBC black out their coverage of a live event and show us pre-taped ‘live’ event, as though this was 1967?

I think it is because NBC still lives in the world of 1967.
I mean, The Today Show has not changed its format much since then
Neither has NBC NIghtly News for that matter.
NBC may pay lip service to The Internet
But they clearly don’t get it.
And it’s really really annoying.
The rest of the planet has already seen the opening ceremonies/
They have seen them live in Zimbabwe for crying out loud.
But not here in America.
Zimbabwe does better live coverage of the Olympics than NBC.
Apparently.
