NY Times Mark Bittman makes video for the paper
We’ve always said that the web mandates video.
This was based on the pure logic that we see the web on screens and screens carry video, and well, people like video.
The average American watches 5+ hours of TV a day, so we must really like video.
ComScore.com just released their most recent video scores and the numbers are just astonishing – much bigger than I thought they were, and growing even faster than our mosts optimistic projections would have indicated.
The number we used to throw around all the time for uploads is that we upload 40 hours of video to YouTube every minute. That in itself is pretty incomprehensible.
To put this into perspective, a good produciton company in NY or LA will take weeks to produce one hour of video.  A major company like NBC produces perhaps a few thousand hours of video a year – so to produce 40 hours a minute  is enormous.
But apparently wrong.
The new comScores tell us that we are now uploading close to 70 hours of video a minute.
And that is just the beginning:
37 billion video views are occuring every month.
Every Month.
The average viewer watches 22 hours of online video every month and YouTube alone had more than 157 million unique viewers each month.
To put this in perspective, OWN, the Oprah WInfrey Network gets about 300,000 viewers.
Where do you think the future is?
