Meredith’s John Zieser explains Parents Magazine on the tablet
Meredith publishes a long list of magazines that you are probably intimately familiar with, from Better Homes and Gardens to Ladies Home Journal to Parents and beyond.
Meredith, in their own words, “For over 100 years, Meredith brands have been committed to providing women with information and inspiration to create a rich and meaningful life. By focusing on the core passions of family, home and self, we continue to play a vital role in the lives of 75 million* women.”
This is not ‘Wired’.
This is mainstream American publishing. They’re going to tablets quickly and efficiently.
And going to tablets means going to video.
Look at the video above. Look at what percentage of the tablet demonstration is in video.
If you don’t want to get your stopwatch out, I have done this for you already.
More than 50% of the tablet demonstration is video driven. And it should be. It is what John Zieser calls ‘an immersive video experience’.
And he’s right.
Tablets demand video.
There is a natural expectation for users of tablets that there is going to be video.
But now, look at the magazines, any magazine; or any magazine’s website.
How much video do you see?
Very little.
So as magazines transit from print to tablets they are going to need massive amounts of very high quality video delivered at the same price point as print was delivered. That is, to think of Final Cut Pro editing software as word processing software. To think of VJs as writers.
Who is going to provide all this vast ocean of video that magazines and newspapers are going to need?
I think that would be.. you.
