The staff at Parade Magazine start their lessons in iMovie
A few days ago I wrote ‘will iMovie replace Final Cut’?
It was something of a specious question, but there is no question that iMovie 11 is a remarkably powerful piece of software; even more remarkable when you consider that it is free.
Today we are starting an in-house bootcamp at Parade Magazine to teach the staff to work in iMovie.
Parade is an American nationwide Sunday newspaper magazine, distributed in more than 500 newspapers in the United States. It was founded in 1941 and is owned by Advance Publications. The most widely read magazine in the U.S., Parade has a circulation of 32.2 million and a readership of nearly 70 million.
(I lifted that whole graph from Wikipedia)
Now, this is interesting from several perspectives.
First, the use of iMovie in a professional context is a real hallmark for the software. Â As mentioned previously, I think iMovie is going increasingly be used for places that are strictly making video for online. Â It’s powerful, easy to use and free.
Second, Parade is indeed the most widely read magazine in the US. And they are starting to wrap their head around video.
As more and more magazines and newspapers begin to migrate their content to the web, they are going to need more and more video content – screens demand video. Where are they going to get it from?
This takes us back to … us.
Yes, those of us here on NYVS.
The skills that we are teaching you here – to make compelling, quality video on your own, are, to my mind, the skills of what is going to become the greatest growth business in the next 20 years, the production of video to feed the online beast.
Parade is not alone, and like USAÂ TODAY or NYÂ Magazine or others with whom we are working, they are all just starting to grapple with online video – what is it going to look like and more significantly, who is going to make it.
Today is only our first day at Parade, but we think it’s the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
For us, and for you.
