Motorola Droid XÂ – Bigger
If you wanted an indication of the coming power of the next-gen video (on smart devices as opposed to TV) you could not do better than to look at the ‘shape of things to come’ in the world of phones.
Market research group NPD published findings this week that consumers are gravitating toward and demanding bigger smart phones solely for the purpose of being able to see video there.
What does this mean for us?
It means that increasingly the platform for video is going to be phones.
And there’s going to be a lot of demand for video
A lot.
It’s a whole new market, and one that is largely unformed.
This is a golden time to ‘stake your claim’ in the universe of on-phone video.
What does it look like?
Nobody knows, but we’re going to start finding out.
This is not the first time that content has driven design of a product, but this is certainly one of the most direct turn-arounds. Technology had been pushing phones smaller and smaller (try typing on a blackberry or iPhone). Now, it seems, video screens are going to be the dominant feature in phone technology. Which means video is going to be the dominant medium of transmission.
And who makes the video?
Why not?
