Miami Herald Video Maven
I started reading Chuck Fadely’s video missives a few years ago when I signed up for his Yahoo group, Newspapervideo.
I was so impressed, I brought him to Brussels to speak at our annual Digital News Affairs (DNA) conference.
I was impressed then and I am even more impressed now.
Chuck is the head of the visual news team at The Miami Herald.
Fadely has spent more than 20 years at the Miami Herald as a photographer and and picture editor. But his real claim to fame is that he was one of the first to catch the video wave and to own it. He now has four full-time and three part-time videographes. And a string of awards.
He has also built an impressive online videographer community and he knows his stuff.
Yesterday, The Poynter Institute annouced that video is now the second biggest driver of traffic to the web for The Miami Herald.
This is in no small measure due to Chuck’s dedication to the craft and his understanding of what people want to see.
Earlier this year, the paper produced its first full-length documentary, Nou Bouke, about Haiti. It aired on 70 PBS stations nationally.
If you have an interest in a career as a working newspaper videojournalist – a realitvely new position, I would urge you to sign up for Chuck’s newsgroup.
