I guess it makes the cut now…
Not so many years ago my ex-wife (but every day it becomes more days!!!) had a ‘discussion’ with me about Final Cut Pro as an editing tool.
“It’s a toy”, she announced with all the authority she used to say “You’re wrong”.
She had room after room of giant Avid machines the size of refrigerators and the complexity of The Space Shuttle (and about as expensive). They also needed highly trained and expensive professional editors.
Well, it turns out that the Coen Brothers cut True Grit on Final Cut Pro.
Says Ethan: “Now I look at footage in Final Cut Pro, mark ins and outs of various takes, and send them over to Joel, who assembles them in a Final Cut timeline.â€
In case you have not seen True Grit, go see it.
It may be hard to divorce yourself from the film, but every once in a while sit back and say, ‘hey, I could edit this on my Mac at home!’
I mean, OK there’s the actors, the writers, the cinematography and all that, but jeez, the days of million dollar edit systems (or big bulky expensive Avids) are clearly over.
As for my ex? Well, IÂ have not heard from her in 8 years, so I don’t expect any emails saying ‘I was wrong’.
Not in a million years.
