David Guy Levy
Yesterday we told you about a Korean director who had shot the world’s first feature film on an iPhone.
Today, David Guy Levy not only shot an entire feature, A Love Affair of Sorts, on a flipcam, but has gotten distribution for it.
Shooting a picture is one thing.
Getting distribution is another.
As of this week, Paranormal Activity 2 had raked in more than $85 million, it seems clear that very low budget indys are rapidly gaining traction.
Paranormal’s worldwide gross to date:Â $165 million.
Distributors are now looking for more low cost/high risk film ventures that can grab an audience.
This is clearly more about writing and storytelling than about expensive special effects or movie star names.
The film follows a guy & girl who meet in a bookstore when he catches her shoplifting with his ever-present Flip cam. As they start up a tentative relationship, he captures it all on the camera, though nothing about the situation is as straightforward as it seems.
Flipcams, as we all know, are the simplest point and shoot cameras around, and are made and distributed by Cisco, of all people.
There’s clearly something here.
And it’s something we like.
We can’t show you a clip from the movie… yet… but we will as soon as it becomes available.
Meanwhile here’s a quote from the Very Industry Hollywood Reporter:
“The film follows a guy & girl who meet in a bookstore when he catches her shoplifting with his ever-present Flip cam. As they start up a tentative relationship, he captures it all on the camera, though nothing about the situation is as straightforward as it seems.”
We’re going to be focusing a lot on indy features in the future.
And we’ve got our eyes on this one as well.

I checked out The Feed the other night at a friend’s house, and was pleasantly surprised. This is a great little indie film that puts a spotlight on what small budget films are capable of, especially in this genre. The movie relies on good old fashion storytelling and suspense to suck the audience in rather than high-tech and high expense special effects.

Thank you so much for putting the spotlight on independent artists. We all wish this guy every success.
I agree that ultra-low budget pictures are now in high demand, especially genre films. I’m not sure if this is even permitted, but below is a link to the trailer for the soon-to-be released horror film, “The Feed”. This is a professional, feature length movie that was recently made for $8,000 (eight thousand dollars) in Pennsylvania.
