Mapplethorp II
I just finished an intensive 4-day course in advanced portrait lighting at the International Center for Photography in NY.
The course was taught by Harvey Stein, an accomplished photographer in his own right.
Personally, I was most interested in the Avedon style lighting – I like his work a lot and I want to reproduce it for the silkscreen prints – but the course covered a whole range of lighting techniques. All very interesting.
The school itself is great – the facilities are unbelievable – and it’s just down the street
I was delighted to learn that as a graduate (even after four days apparently), I get free access to the massive and incredibly well equippled studios. And there are a lot of them.
All in all I would recommend this to anyone who wants to improve their photographic skills.
