This morning I woke up to Sebastao Salgado.
or at least a print by him…
being held up by my wife.
Today is my birthday, and at this age, it is something I would rather forget than remember, but Lisa started the day with the gift of an original Salgado print from his Sahel series (ca. 1985).
I love Salgado’s work, largely because he stands both as a photojournalist and as an artist in his own right. His work is powerful, but as journalism but also as art. Â This one will go in the bedroom.
I don’t know what else we have in store for my birthday. Â I am just having breakfast, but I have been told to make no plans for the day.
So far… so good, however.

Happy Birthday Michael! I looked up Salgado’s work and recognized a lot of it, but didn’t know who it was by until now.
