Back to school in September….
This morning we are kicking off a whole new Travel Channel Academy here in DC.
On the heels of the Radio Free Europe session in Prague, (and starting with GSA.gov in DC in two weeks), it’s nice to be working with non-journalists. (Not that I have anything against professional journalists, God forbid!).
Travel Channel President and GM Pat Younge was here this morning, explaining that the whole Academy concept is the core of the future of the Travel Channel.
And why not?
My brother-in law, Ted Savaglio, is a producer at MSNBC. Walking home after the Obama speech last night, he saw a guy breaking into a car on Manhattan’s upper east side.
He dialed 911 and in a moment, the cops were there. Ted reports that the guy tried to hide in the car, but the cops got him.
Nice.
Too bad he didn’t have a flipcam with him. A nice local news story.
At Travel Channel Academy, we’re equipping thousands (literally) of Travel Channel viewers to carry small cameras where ever they go, and teaching them how to tell compelling stories for the channel.
Of course, you don’t always get a guy breaking into a car.
But then again… suppose we were to do an MSNBC Academy?
Can someone forward this to Steve Capus?
