Don’t move the camera!
Today we are at the first day of VJ Bootcamp with the NOAA.
That is the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration.
A branch of the US Government.
The NOAA is the part of the US Government that deals with all the weather, seas, sea life, fishing and lots more.
You can read all about them here.
The NOAA, like many others, wants to become video literate.
Their people are all over the world, in lots of intersting places, from coastal fishing to sulfur vents at the bottom of the trans-Atlantic ridge. So there are lots and lots of stories to tell.
Yesterday, the NOAA folks took us on a tour of the national Oceanographic Institute in DC, part of the National Museum of Natural History. This is where the public gets to see part of what they do.
And while we were there, we saw that Giant Squid that Discovery and National Geographic did all those TV shows about.
And there it was!
A squid more than 30 feet long!!
This morning the NOAA folks are heading out with their cameras to shoot their first stories.
They’ll be back in about 4 hours.
Not really enough time to head off to sea to shoot a live Giant Squid…
but then again, around here, you nevere know….

Michael your training has been the highlight of my career. And I’ve been down in a submersible off the Alaskan Island of Adak!
Why?! Because now I am armed with a few simple yet powerful tools to tell the story of my agency in moving pictures.
I hope to dig up those mini DVs from that submersible cruise (2002) and make a 2-3 minute story using my new communication tools!
Thank you and I’m sure we’ll keep in touch!
