WUSAÂ videojournalist Lindsay Matsis went out on assignment from her station in DC to cover a “Real World’ shoot in DC.
As you can see, the Real World cameraman seemed not too happy, nor too cooperative, with the DC based VJ.

I forgot to add that the cameraman in this clip is behaving like a jerk. The young woman is remarkably dignified.
Both he and his equipment should be immersed in saltwater.

Again and again we make this comparison between VJ and Cameraman. It’s an attempt to compare apples with oranges; each is working in its own market with different products. There is room for both. It’s not an ‘either or’ situation. I know mainstream cameramen who now carry Sony Z1s because in some situations they are a more suitable tool. And I know some VJs who would happily use a top of the range Ikegami if the circumstances were right.
Michael I think you are a brilliant advocate for the importance of embracing change and understanding new technologies, but let’s not polarise the debate between VJ and cameraman too much. What matters is the product – not the technology which produces it.

If only she had had a journalist with her to run interference with this dickhead.

Adapt and overcome.
Our shoulder-mounted camera man would still get a better quality picture and audio than our single camera, shot-gun mic VJ.
Now if only he didn’t act like an ***$$& and disrupted her. He could have gotten his material and moved on.
This battle over VJ’s vs. Camera Crews will be won by those who can deliver quality product. The distribution methods will change, but out-of-focus shots, poor audio, poor shot composition and terrible compression settings will lose against a crew of two or three individuals who have the ability and knowlege to deliver a better product.

Would anyone think it rude if Ms. Matsis would have kneed that dip shiz camera “man” in the balls and watched him crumple to the sidewalk?

Seems as though someone doesn’t like the idea of competition.
I say – Adapt or perish – either way dude – self contained video journalism is here to stay – deal with it.

Why did this camera guy have an Apple shirt on? Maybe he edits as well?
