Reunion 2008
I graduated from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 1983.
That is a long time ago.
So long ago, that we recently celebrated our 25th anniversary.
Hard to believe.
We had a party (above) at our house to which close to 100 members of the class attended.
That’s a pretty good turn out after a quarter century.
We also set up a list-serve for the class.
Sometimes it lays dormant.
Every once in a while it lights up.
This week, in the final days of the presidential election, it has been very active. For me it is a pleasure and a great surprise to see that my classmates still are involved with each other. We have created a classic online community.
The class grads run the spectrum from TV to online to newspapers and universities.
We have our share of superstars. I think we have 5 Pulitzer Prize winners in the group, but we also have a great chunk of working journalists and academics, and their insights and ideas are always welcome and interesting.
A few went on to law school; a few went to B school; a few went to non-profits. But they all bring 25 years of experience and insight into the world of journalism.
It’s a real web community that works.
